Instaurare omnia in Christo
To restore all things in Christ
Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.
The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity, and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.
The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam, Saipan, Lithuania, Ukraine, and South Korea. - Taken from the Knights of Columbus Supreme Website
The Knights of Columbus are Catholic gentlemen committed to the exemplification of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism, and defense and support of the Priesthood. The Order is consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and enthusiastically endorsed by the Pope. It is unequivocal in its loyalty to the Pope, the Vicar of Christ on Earth. It is firmly committed to the protection of human life, from conception to natural death, and to the preservation and defense of the family. It was on these bedrock principles that the Order was founded over a century ago and remains true to them today.
The Knights of Columbus Council #10122 serves both St. Pius X and Queen of Peace Parishes and is one of the largest Councils within the State of Colorado. These Knights help support many charities throughout the local and state levels, including the Archdiocese's Catholic Charities. Also, the Knights are large supporters of the intellectual developmental disability community both financially and with volunteering. Additionally, the Council and 4th Degree Assembly support 15 Seminarians studying at either of the two Seminaries in Denver. The Knights also are large supporters of the Parishes they serve. At St. Pius X, the Knights of Council #10122 are new but they have served a delicious pancake breakfast previously, supplied coats and jackets to Parish and neighborhood members during a Coats for Kids Drive and are looking to become even more active within the Parish with other projects.
